Doula Benefits

Practical Help & Peace of Mind

What do the trials say about Doulas?

Results of randomised trials showed that the continuity of emotional care throughout your pregnancy and labour with a doula, had the benefits of

  • Shortened labour,
  • Decreased need for pain medication,
  • Fewer operative deliveries,
  • Improved Apgar scores
  • Fewer reports of dissatisfaction with the experience of labour”.

In fact one such trial concluded that “expectant mothers matched with a doula had better birth outcomes than did mothers who gave birth without involvement of a doula”

Better outcomes with a doula than without!
Because pregnancy and birth is a very emotional time, you want someone that is independent from family – and is not an employee of the hospital. Someone that you, (and your partner), can talk to easily and comfortably, who will provide you with up-to-date evidence based research – should you want it.

I can show you coping strategies for the demands of labour
A doula will help prevent you from getting overwhelmed when things are thrown at you during pregnancy. She will help you (and your partner) to remain calm and focused during labour.

Practical help and peace of mind
By helping you understand the process, and by staying with you throughout your labour – making sure your physical and emotional needs are being met, a doula can significantly lower the risk of you experiencing the type of birth you were not expecting.

“Don’t just hope for the birth you want…Prepare for it”
